Cookies file is gone -- same with Temporary Internet Files

Discussion in 'Internet Explorer' started by Wallyball2003, Nov 18, 2006.

  1. Can anyone explain why my Cookies file and Temporary Internet Files would
have disappeared. I think it happened when I installed the most recent set
of updates a couple of days ago. Do I need to be concerned about this?

I'm running IE 7.0. Cookies file existed after I installed 7.0 but has
    since disappeard.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. Figured it out. For some idiotic reason, 7.0 automatically hides "protected
operating system files" even if you had your prior version set to show hidden
    files. Unbelievable. Truly.

OK, I understand now some of my problems with cookies I want to delete
    individually...
So, how can you view protected system files ?

  4. Not knowing your expierience level, I will be overly simplistic in my
response. No offense intended. To view hidden files, click the following:
    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Folder Options
    4. View (the tab at the top of the box)
    5. Then, under the Files and Folders section you will have a subfolder
called "Hidden files and folders" -- make sure the circle called "Show
hiddens files and folders" is checked
    6. Click "Apply" in the lower left and you are set to view all your folders,
    including your cookies folder

  5. Did you look for you Temporary Internet Files folder in your Local Settings
folder? On my computer, the Local Settings folder is found at C:\Documents
    and Settings\[my name]\Local Settings
