Custom Attribute - Default Value

I have a custom attribute within AD and I've added it to the User class
    for use in our organisation.

This is working fine, but it would help if I could have the value of all
new user objects set to a default value, rather than not being set. I
don't know if I've missed something, but I can't find any information
about this. Is this something I can change?

    Many thanks,
    Craig

    Hi Andy,

Are you saying that the population of default values in custom
attributes is best done by a maintenance routine?

can't I set it in AD Schema or ADSI?

You can't have the directory itself populate a default value for you. The
schema itself does not support this. Whatever provisioning code you use for
setting this value will need to be responsible for setting a default.
