Hi there, a newly promotoed win2k domain controller (which is a virtual
machine running under virtual server 2005 sp1. This is the second time I've
promoted the server and the second time I am receiving these errors.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Starting test: Advertising

Server is not responding or is not considered suitable.
The DC server2 is advertising itself as a DC and having a DS.

The DC server2 is advertising as having a writeable directory
The DC server2 is advertising as a Key Distribution Center

I'm at a loss, no SYSVOL shares are showing and this is the only test that
    DCDIAG fails on.

    Thanks.

An Warning Event occured. EventID: 0x800034FD
    Time Generated: 10/01/2008 11:06:29
Event String: File Replication Service is initializing the

system volume with data from another domain

controller. Computer UKSCCMADS02 cannot become a

domain controller until this process is complete.

The system volume will then be shared as SYSVOL.

To check for the SYSVOL share, at the command

    prompt, type:

    net share

When File Replication Service completes the

initialization process, the SYSVOL share will

    appear.

The initialization of the system volume can take

some time. The time is dependent on the amount of

data in the system volume, the availability of

other domain controllers, and the replication

    interval between domain controllers.

  6. Are you using AD integrated dns? Because each server you are showing has
itself as the primary dns and your secondary dns is some unknown server you
haven't defined. What is the .33 server?

You also are using server1 as a router, is this intentional?

  7. Manually check your forward and reverse zones for dns addressing errors

    Warning: DsGetDcName returned information for
\\UKSCCMADS01.jw-uk.jameswalker.co.uk, when we were trying to reach
    UKSCCMADS02.

Once you have found the error then on both servers, from a command prompt,
    do the following:
    netdiag /fix
    ipconfig /registerdns

  8. Hello Andrew,

If the secondary DNS is the Main office, i assume both other DC's are in
the same site? Then change the secondary DNS to the other site DNS server.
Did you setup AD sites and services with the subnets and move the DC's to
    the correct site?

    Best regards

    All zones are AD integrated.
.33 is our HUB sites DC.
server1 as a router shouldn;t be the case, it's IP is 10.0.1.1, the router
    IP is 10.0.0.1?

Thanks both for replies, still no joy though.

Both forward and reverse zones and server records have the correct IP
    addresses.

    Any more ideas guys

    Hi Meinolf,

All DC's are in their own site, sites and servcces have been configured.

I;ve just chan ged the DNS server addresses on both DC's so they are each
other secondary (new DC on this site, so forgot to do thuis earlier)

  12. Something in DNS isn't correct or you wouldn't be getting the error in
    dcdiag you got.

    Hello Meinolf,

It's a brand new build from a Windows 2000 cd, it's a virtual machine if
    this makes any difference.

  17. Hello Andrew,

Basically not, see here some infos about DC's as VM:

Cheers, read the article and downloaded the VM DC guide also before
installing the server and promoting to a DC.
