THere must be some way to delete the saved search terms in the search window?
I use Google as my default search engine and would like to get rid of these
searches when I close the application. Any help?

If you have the latest version of the Google Toolbar installed, you
can clear your Toolbar's search history by clicking the arrow button
to the right of the search box. When your drop-down search history
appears, simply click the "Clear History" link.

    Otherwise...
    Have you tried IE-Tools-Internet Options-Content-AutoComplete?
