  1. Okay this really sux. My mother-in-law's Dell 2400 motherboard got fried in a
lightning storm back in Florida and I am trying to help her get a new machine
running. I just bought a new Asus barebones box and moved her old HD, ram and
Periphs over - I assumed I would be able to install her XP cd (that came with
the Dell) on this new reaplacement machine - BUT M$ is telling me that I will
have to buy a NEW COPY OF XP? Is this true? THIS IS A REPLACEMENT PC, the old
one is toast, and I still have to buy a new copy of XP? What a pack of greedy

That's correct, any software is licenced for one machine only, because Dell
and other OEMs buy Windows XP in so cheap it's limited to only the machine
    they sell to you.

If Dell repaired or replaced the machine then it would be a none issue.
