Last June, 2005, Windows XPMCE2005 was the chosen OS software for my DELL
computer order. A Dell Cust service rep via phone assembled my Dell PC
hardware to accomodate the MCE2005 software.

Several issues and concerns have been listed regarding the MCE2005 software
"packaged" with a DELL Dimenision 8400 computer:
incompatiable hardware and software, applications and driver assignment
problems, and poor custmer service received from Dell support technicians.

** Dell 5650 5.1 surround sound speaker system with subwolfer ... factory
installed audio with analog speakers (the installed software calibrates only
a 2 - speaker system and does not support Digital sound output)

** DELL 19" in E193FP display - this is only a analog monitor unless DVI
adpator is included in set-up kit ... i did not receive a DVI adapter with my
    hardware.

***DVD decoding software, and TV tuner drive was not included with original
    shipment

***DELL does not provide COA, genuine, authenicated software. A copy is
    provided only if requested.

**DELL shipped duplicate and incorrect OS reinstallation DVD's. Dell
Support technicians via telephone provided reinstallation assistance for all
    OS reinstalls.

    *** Received Dell Support 3.0 for DIM 3000, 4600. 4700 for reference

*** Dell (tm) Desktop Computers Product Information Guide manual was
received with original shipment ... an Abbreviation/Acronym footnoot states
that "if you purchased a Dell (tm) n Series computer, any references in this
document to Microsoft(R) Windows (R) operating systems are not applicable".
My packing slip does not reference a Dell (tm) Series being recieved???

***a Wireless keyboard and mouse desktop solution that is not multimedia
    friendly

Any one else experiencing similiar problems?

ALL software, including windows OS, applications, drivers and more were
preinstalled at DELL before shipment Dell did not include back-up or
reinstallation disks with the computer shipment oder. Unfortunately, my
'refurbished' system crashed within one week due to 3 corrupt windows files.
With no windows operating system, the Dell "image restore" was unsuccessful.

Since the initial crash, 3 more have been encountered.
I have purchased extended software and hardware warranties which included a
Dell representative on-site visit to my home ... unfortunately, the on-site
support triggered more system and hardware problems.

With no genuine, authenicate, back-up software, Microsoft Windows operating
system reinstallations to my computer have not been successful. Numerous
support calls to Dell support techs have only resulted in duplicate and
incorrect windows operating systems on my computer. Dell software and
hardware support technicians need more professional and customer service
training. Also, Dell online support technicians sometimes like to
prematurely log off during chat sessions.

    Dell compatiable hardware included:
** 5.1 surround sound system with factory installed analgue speakers
(software calibrates only a 2 - speaker system and does not support Digital
    sound output)
** DELL 19" in E193FP analgue monitor (the DVI adpator, DVD decoding
software, and TV tuner drive not included with original shipment)
**I have received no COA, genuine authincated software from DELL to date.
**DELL support has shipped to my home duplicated and incorrect
reinstallation windows operating system DVD's and instructed via telephone
to load onto my Dell Dimension computer
*** Dell Support 3.0 for DIM 3000, 4600. 4700 was sent in error for reference
*** Dell (tm) Desktop Computers Product Information Guide manual was
received with original shipment ... and an Abbreviation/Acronym footnoot
states that "if you purchased a Dell (tm) n Series computer, any references
in this document to Microsoft(R) Windows (R) operating systems are not
    applicable"

  2. I'm surprised at this - I get great support from Dell when I need it, which
is rarely. Then again, I'd never buy a refurbished PC either - new ones are
cheap enough and probably much less hassle.

About the only suggestion I have is to keep trying, and tell the support rep
to "escalate it to a support manager". However, since it's over a year old
now, I doubt you can do much more than find out what the offending part(s)
    are and replace yourself...

Dell usually sends an OS disk with the PC and on the PC is a sticker the
lists the Windows Auth. Code to run the OS CD? I have never had any trouble
with getting problems resolved with DELL, and would never buy from any other
PC Manufactor again, my experiences with other makers is a whole nother story
    in its self.
