Just on the off-chance, has anyone managed to find a 64 bit driver for the
embedded CERC SATA 2s Raid controller on a Poweredge 1800? Failing that,
can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful Raid Controller?

I've managed to install the 32bit version without problem and I've installed
the 64bit using ATA, but have had no luck with the 64bit raid.

I'm wanting to use this box as a test bed to 'play' with Hyper V & Windows
2008 before installing it for real early next year.

    Many thanks.

    Hello,

I would like to suggest that you contact DELL company for this. They should
have all the necessary drivers for the embedded hardware devices. I just
found this from the DELL website:

    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&S
    erviceTag=&SystemID=PWE_1800&os=WNET&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Additionally, you need to verify that the Poweredge 1800 machine supports
Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V version, as I didn't see the Windows
Server 2008 is listed as an officially supported operating system by DELL
    company.

I would not suggest that you try some other drivers as they may have some
unpredictable problems when you use Windows Server 2008 64bit with Hyper-V.

    Sincerely,

Many thanks for the information George - I'm very grateful.

I've spoken to Dell and they have suggested a CERC 6 channel ard which does
    have Windows Server 2008 support.

Can I, however, ask a silly question......

You mention that I need to verify that the Poweredge 1800 supports Windows
Server 2008 with Hyper-V version. Is this going to need different
specifications to one that will support Windows Server 2008 (without the
    Hyper-V)?

Browsing through Dell's site I can't see any mention of a server with
    Hyper-V support.

    Hi Waggers,

Yes, there are some additional hardware requirements for Hyper-V such as an
x64-based processor, hardware-assisted virtualization, and hardware data
execution protection. You can search the Windows Server catalog to see if
the specified machine supports Hyper-V (note that not all the supported
machines are listed here). Also, contacting DELL manufacturer for the
detailed information would be the best way.

Detailed information about the hardware requirements are listed in the
    following article:

Hyper-V RC1 Release Notes (it also applies to other versions):
    http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/6f9927fb-8a0e-47d
    b-850b-1d0a04359d911033.mspx
For the machines that support Hyper-V listed in Windows Server catalog,
    please refer to:

    http://windowsservercatalog.com/results.aspx?&bCatID=1283&cpID=0&avc=11&ava=

    I hope this helps.
