Demoted Domain Controller With DFS Root Target

A domain controller was demoted while it had DFS Root Targets on it.
The DFS shares still work because there was a second domain controller with
the same Root Targets on it.
The physical file targets are also on the demoted machine. It had been both
a file server and a domain controller and now it is only a domain controller.

Do we need to do anything like remove the root target from the demoted
machine now that it is no longer a domain controller?

If you intend to maintain this computer as a member server, then you do not.
DFS root targets do not have to reside on domain controllers...

I mean to say it is now only a file server. It is no longer a domain
    controller.

  4. Hello MyGposts,

DFS root targets can also be hosted on member servers. No need for a DC.

    Best regards

This is fine - as long as it remains to be a domain member...
