difference between Assign and Publish a software

    What is the difference between Assign and Publish in GPO software deployment.
    can we deploy software through .exe file ?

    Just to add, I usually explain the differences to my students as that you
    can assign (or better known as "force") a package on users or computers, but
    you can only publish packages to users. THis is because with publishing, it
    is not forced, rather that a user can pick and choose which app they want to
    install from the "available software on the network" list in Add/Remove,
    whereas a computer cannot "pick and choose."

    As explained, Publishing will publish the software through ADD Remove
    programs. Assign can be configured in 3 different ways, assign to users
    on-demand, assign to users, or assign to computers. The cool thing about
    Assigning software to be available on demand is when you've too much
    software Assign to multiple users, this option allows the user to install
    the software with a single click or by opening a document that as an
    extension assigned to that App, is almost the same as Publishing software
    with the difference that in Publishing software the user needs to go to add
    remove programs to choose and install what apps he/she needs.
