Different gateways for mail and database

Discussion in 'Server Networking' started by Alexander Dober, Jul 2, 2004.

  1. Hi,

we have a Win2k3 server with exchange and database server (firebird)
installed. Is it possible to route all the traffic for the firebird port (in
this case 5143) to one gateway (first router) and the other traffic to a
    second gateway (second router).

    Thx,

    Alex

    Hi Alexander,

the only way I can think of is if you can assign different IP to your
database to run on. Then you can create static route from database IP to
    desired gateway...

  3. Routing occurs based on "subnet-to-subnet" not "layer4 port to layer4 port".

You have to have the Exchange on one subnet and the Database on the other
subnet. The routing will follow the logical topology design of the network.
So put them on the proper subnet to get the effect you desire.

    Not natively.
