Disk Defragmentation

Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by Harold Chattaway, Oct 6, 2004.

  1. Hello:

In Windows 2003 Ent Server, is it possible to just have the built in
defrag utility run until the job is complete? I set it to run and then
it stops after having done only a small percentage of the defrag. I have
to continually rerun it! Can it just run until its 100% defraged?

    Thanks
    Harold

    Just an idea:

Schedule it to run nightly after your backup. Even if it ends early, you'll
get a little more defragged each night and eventually get to 100% or as
    close as is possible.

  3. Could it be that your screensaver is kicking in and interrupting the
    completion of the defrag?

  4. No, I can sit and watch it and it stops when it has only done a small
amount...It has to be restarted continuously to get done. Its not just
my machine, anyone in the office here who runs it has the same issue.

    Thanks

Try disabling your virus scanner before you defrag.
