I've noticed that Windows Live Mail seems to cause an unread email message
count on the Window's XP user login screen. It strikes me that isn't the
business of anyone not logged on to the user account with unread mail. Is
there anyway to stop the display or is it a feature of WLM that it requires
users to give up some privacy?

I don't necessarily buy it since it only started after I installed WLM.
Never happened with either Outlook or my preferred OE., Additionally, the
behavior does not occur on my other home workstation that's running VIsta
SP1 and Windows Mail. The problem doesn't occur on my laptops, either. In
short, the problem only occurs on the one machine on which I'm running WLM.
I guess I need to check the KB to see it it's a problem or just a feature of
WLM. Thanks for your reply, though.

    A followup: MS has this:

"Overview of the mail notification display on the Windows XP Welcome screen"

That seems to agree with Peter. I guess what it means it that the versions
of OE and OE-express I've used didn't properly update the count.

The article also says that the email program has to support that feature.
Only Outlook Express and Messenger do.
The article did not list Outlook or Windows Mail.
The computer must not be on a domain.
