I am getting these errors in my DNS Event Viewer. How do I get rid of them?
I no longer have these zones created on any of my servers. I tried using the
ADSIEdit but I can't figure out where in there to look to see if it lists it
anywhere. Can someone explain to me how to fix this. Below are the event
    errors.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DNS
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 4007
    Date: 3/23/2006
    Time: 2:59:54 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: WIN2K3-DC1
    Description:
The DNS server was unable to open zone corp.xyz.lan in the Active Directory
from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.xyz.lan. This DNS
server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for
this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active
Directory is functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the
    error code.

  2. Did you delete the zones?

    1. Click Start, click Run, type adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
    2. In the console tree, right-click ADSI Edit, and then click Connect to.
    3. Click Select or type a Distinguished Name or Naming Context, type the
following text in the list, and then click OK:
    DC=ForestDNSZones, DC=contoso, DC=com
    4. In the console tree, double-click DC=ForestDNSZones, DC=contoso, DC=com.
    5. Double-click CN=MicrosoftDNS, and click the zone (contoso.com). You
should now be able to view the DNS records which exist in this DNS
partition. If you desire to remove this partition, right-click on
    contoso.com and then click Delete.

Note Deleting a zone is a destructive operation. Please confirm that a
duplicate zone exists before you perform a deletion.
    6. If you have deleted a zone, restart the DNS service. To do this, follow
these steps:a. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative
    Tools, and then click DNS.
    b. In the console tree, right-click contoso.com, point to All Tasks, and
    then click Restart.

I am having this same problem, but slightly different. I removed this
server from a domain and have added it to a new domain. The errors are for
the domain that no longer exists. When I attempt to use the procedures for
using ADSIedit, I received the message:

A referral was returned from the server.

    Thanks

    Mike

  4. Was it a DC in the previous domain?
Was it properly demoted using Dcpromo?
    Win2k or Win2k3?
It has probably not removed the zone key from the registry,
If Win2k delete the zone key here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DNS\Zones

    If it is Win2k3:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS
    Server\Zones
