    Hi All,
I check my ISA DNS setup and everything is fine, I still have this error
    when I restart DNS server.
    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: DNS
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 113
    Date: 4/13/2006
    Time: 9:03:18 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: INTEGRAM-BACKUP
    Description:
The DNS server could not signal the service "NAT". The error was 1168. There
may be interoperability problems between the DNS service and this service.

I have two DC with DNS integrated, I check the replication and it's ok.
I run dcdiag and everything pass.
How can I solve this problem?
Do I need to reinstall DNS? What are the steps to do this?
Do I need to recreate the zone? How can I do this?
    Tks

  3. Re-installing DNS is not the cure, I've tried to follow you through this and
never could get a clear picture. After seeing your post in the ISA group I'm
beginning to see a little. If ISA is running on your DNS server, you can't
run the DNS proxy in ISA. Both services cannot listen on the same port and
    IP.

  5. What is running on the DNS server?
    Run this command:
    net start
This will give a list of running services.

  11. You can certainly enable RAS without NAT, but apparently NAT is enabled with
the DNS proxy, that's why your getting the 113 events.
Temporarily disable RRAS and restart the server to see if the 113 events
    stop, I suspect they will.
When you configured RRAS, did you choose the option to manually configure
    RRAS?
This should have configured everything you need for a RAS server, without
    installing any conflicting components.

  13. The web server should not be dependant on RRAS. Is the web server running on
    the same machine?
I'm not sure what is going on with your setup, it has be difficult to follow
all your issues, you have at least five threads going in this group and
    others over several related issues.

If you would give a description of your issues and how the network is setup.

What I've got so far is you have ISA on one server, you have at least one DC
with DNS, and a RAS server, which by the way is not recommended to be on a
DC. You can run RAS on a DC but it requires extra configuration, registry
entries and creating manual records in DNS that you have to stop because RAS
is running on a DC. It is really better to run RAS on a member server

Tks Kevin for you reply and help.
I was trying to solve different errors that my DC was displaying on events
that's why I have different postage.
Let me tell you what I have:
An ISA 2004 enter server with a 3 leg perimeter (3 NICS) and I'm using my DC
with integrated DNS (2003 server enter), in my DC also I have DHCP running.
If you want me to show you IP address configuration please send me an email
    to
After I disable RRAS none of the computers inside work, also they can go out
for internet and i couldn't connect using full name
    myserver.mydomain.local.com.
I'm learning this and please let me know what else do you need to know.
    Do I need RRAS?

  15. IF you disable RRAS on the DC, then that would likely mean that your clients
are using the DC for their gateway.
Your ISA server should be performing your routing duties and be connected to
the internet. This means your internal clients should be using it as the
gateway for the segment they are on.
One problem I can see already is, you need DHCP on each segment to assign
    the gateway for each segment.
I'm not the person to advise you on setting up ISA. I would suggest you post
in the ISA group on how to configure ISA.
If you are going to use a VPN Remote Access Server, then yes. But since you
have ISA, it should not have NAT enabled.
