Does this sound like a VPN problem?

A remote XP SP3 machine vpns to our SBS 03.

Exchange mail and read/write access to shared folders on the server
    works normally.

From the server I cannot read the contents of shared folders on the
remote XP machine while the vpn is connected. Should I be able to?

Not necessarily. There could be various packet filters in the way.
Using shared folders requires the SMB/CIFS protocol, and the normal XP
firewall, if nothing else, will prevent that unless suitably
configured. If you check the VPN configuration on the XP machine,
you'll probably see the connection marked as 'firewalled'. I've never
tried sharing things this way, but maybe someone else has.

Microsoft has abandoned newsgroups, though a few of us still keep an
eye on this one. This is where the action is now:

You'll need a Hotmail address/Windows Live ID to post questions.
