Does Windows Explorer Search use the MS index service for results?

    Using the following test.
    Stop in the index service.
    create a text document with the work helper in the document.
    use the windows explorer search. check for word or phrase in the document.
    the search finds the document with helper in the document.
    How to you querry the index catalog and how to you tell the windows explorer
    to use the index service catalogs?
