Domain name host (A) records

We have a split DNs with internal hosts registering into an internal WIn2k3
DNS for mycorp.com. Our outward facing hosts are in an external DNS also in
    mycorp.com.

In the external dns we have mycorp.com pointing to a host record that
matches www.mycorp.com so that http://mycorp.com goes to our web site.
    Simple stuff.

We want to implement the same scheme for our internal DNS. We currently
have a host (A) record for mycorp.com that points to the IP for our web
server. However, it appears that each domain controller also registers an A
record as mycorp.com. As these don't have the web site, http://mycorp.com
    usually returns an error.

Can you help me understand why thr DCs register A records, whether we need
it and if not, how to stop it?

Alternately, how can I accomplish the web thing for http://mycorp.com?

    Thanks

  2. Ouch - I don't think you really want to do this. You're going to mess up
    your AD badly.

There are a lot of good reasons to avoid using the same internal & external
domain name, and this is one of them. You can easily enough create www to
point at the public website, but don't try to do anything with mycorp.com
    internally.

Your internal users can learn to type www easily enough - or you can put a
link to http://www.mycorp.com on your intranet page, if you have one.

I assumed there's a problem with this, but can you help me understand
why each domain controller registers an A record for mycorp.com? The
powers that be will want a reason (Marketing doesn't like "because").
