My OS is Windows 2000. I'm running WMP 9. I am unable to play certain files
because I need a DRM security upgrade. Microsoft points me to this site:
    http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp. When I click on
upgrade, I get an error message saying "Window Media Player is not installed
properly. Reinstall the player". No matter how many times I uninstall and
reinstall the player, I get the same message. I've turned off all firewalls
and antivirus software. I've downloaded a fresh copy of WMP 9. Nothing works.
Any ideas would be most helpful. Thanks!

That particular error should mean that your system catalog storage file is
corrupt. An OS reinstall may fix this particular issue up. There may be
other ways to reset the store, but without resetting the CatRoot store I
believe you would not be able to make forward progress. =\
