    I stumbled onto an ALMOST solution. I opened Windows Movie Maker, unchecked
    some codecs. Then it let me import the mpg video files. I put them in order,
    and this time instead of trying to save to computer (which always made the
    program crash) I hit save "to DVD"....this opened the job in Windows DVD
    Maker, and it burned!!!!!

    BAD Doing it this way, it didn't let me choose where the chapter marks
    fell (I'd have preferred at the beginning of each clip in the DVD, eh?).
    Plus, in Movie Maker, I tried to make it show as 4:3 ratio but it stretched
    the clips to widescreen, and this couldn't be fixed in DVD Maker. Auuuuugggh.

    With the same clips, if you open them in Windows Media PLAYER they play
    stretched, but if you open them in Windows Media CENTER you can put them to
    correct 4:3 ratio.

    All in all...MADDENING. When you put a blank DVD in, it should not give you
    the option of burning a DVD in DVD Maker....instead it should point you to
    Movie Maker, and then fix Movie Maker so you can choose chapter points there.
    You shouldn't have to stumble on something that kinda works. Jezziz.

    What had you installed previous to this working? You say you're burning
    MPEG to DVD - that should theoretically (of course) work well - I'm
    suspicious that you have a 3rd party MPEG/MPEG2 decoder that's interfering
    here. =\
