Why are those emoticons not showing when friends are typing the emoticons
    during our chatting session?

  2. Greetings,

What are you seeing exactly? Just a blank spot where the emoticon should be or the text of
    the emoticon, like :)?

I've also lost the ability to see my emoticons. But it appears as plain text,
    not a blank spot.

I've had this problem in the past. I've found that if you look under
tools on a chat window, you'll find that "show emoticons" is not
checked. If you left click it, you'll see a check mark, and find the
emoticons are back....it's worked for me several times ;~)
