Same problem as Ken and Bob. I have just installed XP
    Home and cannot get updates.
It says: Windows Update has encountered an error and
cannot display the requested page. Quote error 0x800A138F
Also, I had windows 98 before and none of my drivers for
hardware can be used on XP. Will I be able to find new
    drivers?
    Where?
    Cheers,
    Roz

    Same problem here.
Scanning for updates reveils Update Error 0X800A138F
I like to mention here.. I have two PC's sharing the
internet. The problem is only on the extended PC. The Host
PC is fine and all updated. In other words, the update
scanning does not reach my extended PC.
    Hope I made this understandible?

Same error here, since mid-August got this error code.
Same on my 2 pc running Win98. I tried using a modem (in
case my firewall-router is creating problem) to no avail.

I currently have a support call open on it at Microsoft.
    Will keep you posted all

Roz, and all the other posters ,

First thing to check is for the existence of a HOSTS file (no file
extension). In mid-August Microsoft started to use the Akamai servers to
mitigate the effects of MSBlast on Windows Updates. Do a search on your
systems for the HOSTS file. When located open it with Notepad and see if
there is any reference to Akamai.net , Microsoft.com, or
windowsupdates.com. If any are found delete them. Save the HOSTS file
and close it. Now see if you can access the Win Up site.
If no joy go here :

    Follow the steps laid out.
