    Have WinVista Home Premium.

Accepted to instal 'important' updates - one of them failed with meaningless
    error code 80070005.

What a crappy system - can't even cut&paste from the error display or the
    instal history !!

THEN - tried following MS instructions on how to search for this error code
    to diagnose problem.

    MS says:-
"Step 2: Search for the installation error code in the Windows Update
    Troubleshooter

Next, we will see whether the Windows Update troubleshooter can determine
which steps you should take to try to resolve this problem. To use the
Windows Update troubleshooter, follow these steps:
    a. In the open window that contains the installation error code, click Find
    Solutions."

Yeah right ..... except I don't have a "Find Solutions" button or tab or
    whatever.

Nice one MS ..... give your customers diagnostic procedures that can't
possibly be used and of course.

Now also I'm stuck as the poxy system keeps trying to instal this failed
update every time some more updates arrive.

Anybody able to tell me how to get out of this one?

    Ideally I'd like to
    (a) diagnose, and fix so as to successfully instal the failed 'important'
    update
    or, failing that
    (b) stop the system from trying to instal it again and again.
