error: Agent failed detecting with reason: 0x8024400e

  1. Windows XP SP2 and 2K3 SP1 machines no longer report to WSUS server after
    patch applied to the WSUS server. Patching occured on 8/5 and immediately
    afterwards all of those clients quit reporting their status. uninstallation
    of the patches, removal of the clients, redetection of the clients in a
    different OU. Nothing Works. WSUS box happens to be on a 2K3 SP1 Machine that
    is about a week old, Technet shows no information. There are a total of 17
    Google hits on it, and the only resolution was to give up and rebuild your
    server. Is there a .NET permission off? Has anyone been able to fix this
    without rebuilding?

  2. We have seen some similar soap errors that are resolved by installing the
    fix for this issue:

    I haven't seen that one specifically however.
