I may have stumbled on a possible sollution for this error code. I was just
experiencing this code while updating my system. I ran a virus scan and found
a backdoor trojan in several locations. After elimination, the updates ran
perfect. Don't know if this is just coincidental or an actual fix.

Sorry John to piggy back on yours I tried to make a new comment/ thread, and
it would not let me, so I had to do it this.. I did scan and found no
trojans. That is with my Windows Live One Care, so hopefuly it was correct.
But I did get rid of the updates for me by trying the suggestions. And praise
my God and Savior Jesus Christ, (you may all be rolling your eyes on that
statement, but I don't care) they (the continous updates are gone). I went
into update history and uninstalled the the "Security Udate for 2007
Microsoft Sytems. I then rebooted and it is gone. So thank you Lord. I also
thank "nowurtalkin" (whom I will thank on the thread he or she helped me
with.) who walked me through it. Thank you!

  3. hi, error code 646 has nothing to do with virus or trojans, 646 is all about
microsoft license agreement that you have to check in the check box. download
all 97..... error code on microsoft website and try installing the update
    again.

    TracyLee,
Would you please clarify the Security update you are referring to.
Is it the "Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB974234)" ?

    Thanks you
