Have had the 80080005 error on messenger for a couple of months.
The other day I synced my HTC Touch contacts to my laptop withou
realizing I had wiped then from my phone.
This removed all my contracts from messenger 9 and it connected for th
    first time in months
Dont know if its coincidence or if the problem was corrupt contac
details. Its great to be back on messenger but a pain replacing all m
    contact details.
Hope this may help some of you, but unlike me backup you contact
    before deleting them from messenger
