Error Code: 8024402C - cannot dowmload update anymore

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by Alain Caillet, Sep 4, 2004.

  1. This XPpro behind a Dlink router never had any problem downloading windows
updates from WU v4 server(cable connection).

Now that the update request are directed to v5 all the upgrades download
attemps fail with Error Code: 8024402C

I get the page to choose between "Express Instal" and "Custom Install",
select Custom, then when Windows Update finish scanning for needed
updates, no componments can be successfully downloaded.

A window open stating: The updates are being downloaded .... then after
20-30 sec the window change to Updates were unable to be successfully
    installed....!

The installation history shows: failed due to error 8024402C.

I did a search of Newsgroup for this error. I am not the only one
affected. It is apparently linked to a proxy setting BUT I don't have a
http proxy, neither a firwall beside the Dlink NAT router.

Everything worked like a charm 2 months ago. What has changed with WU v5
    server?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Hi

    Can you obtain BITSAdmin
    (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/bits/bits/
bitsadmin_tool.asp) and then do the following:
    1) Start the download as you did before
    2) As soon as the new window opens stating that updates are being
    downloaded, run BITSAdmin as follows:
    bitsadmin /list /allusers /verbose

    And send the output.

  6. No Dan, I reposted the thread with a log file for some MVP guru to look at.
The thread isa still going on. I have now removed the Windows update
    "update" but stil no solution.
    I have not given up.
