    Hi,

I have a brand new Acer pc with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-loaded.
When I want to upgrade Vista it gives error 80070714

I searched all ove but they are almost all related to windows defender
upgrade but mine is windows update. Ok anyway I dont have spyware doctor or
skype running. I have two questions

(When I do update on defender runs smoothly)

    1. What exactly means 80070714?
    2. How can I resolve it?

    Thanks

  2. I'm bumping this post because i have found this error as well with th
    automatic updates

I Installed Vista ultimate 4 hours ago (ive spent this long trying t
get the bloody updates to work). When i open up the Windows update i
says 'Windows could not search for new updates' Error(s) found: Cod
80070714 Get help. Of course upon hitting get help, there is absolutel
no useful information to speak of

(note:- This is NOT to do with defender, it updates perfectly fine.

I have since resorted to installing every upgrade one at a time fro
the Microsoft download center, which is becoming tedious very quickl
because theres a little over 100 of them

    i am running:
    core2 x6800 2.93gh
    2gb ra
    2x nvidia 7900gt
    2tb Hd

Has anyone found a sollution to this issue? New to Vista and having the same
problem on a fresh install of Vista Home...

  4. The reason why i was getting the issue with mine, was because when i
first started the account it asked if i wanted to do any updates.
However i thought the computer froze because it went to the install
background for vista and hung for like an hour. I figure it because the
    initial updates weren't installed correctly.

My issue stemmed from having a bummed hard drive which was failing when
    it was writing the information.
