Error msg.: SmartBridge Alerts

Discussion in 'Internet Explorer' started by Frank Kapitan, Mar 31, 2006.

  1. Here is what you do:

Do a search for PSAPI from your start menu. Start>Search>All Files and
Folders> Type: PSAPI (A Word or Phrase in File)
    A list will be created.
Rename all files named PSAPI to PSAPIOLD (DO NOT RENAME FILES THAT HAVE
"WINDOWS" IN THE FOLDER) I renamed anything that said SBC GLOBAL

Yes this is a pain in the @ss but it works!

    1. Motive SmartBridge© is distributing an old version of PSAPI.DLL. As a
result, users might receive the following error message after installation
    of Internet Explorer 7:

"SmartBridge Alerts:MotiveSB.exe Entry Point Not Found The procedure entry
point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link
    library PSAPI.DLL"

    2. Hal Screen Reader and Supernova Reader Magnifier by Dolphin both may stop
responding when users click commands from Internet Explorer’s file menu.
These two programs are shipped with an older version of psapi.dll that
causes the program to stop responding in Internet Explorer 7.

    To work around this error:

    * Go to the installation location for SmartBridge (\Program
Files\Verizon...\Smart...) or Dolphin Hal Screen Reader or Supernova Reader
    Magnifier.

    * Find PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL

    * NB: Do NOT rename the PSAPI.DLL file in C:\Windows\System32 directory!

    * Restart the computer.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q0232: My Dolphin Screen Reader / Magnifier displays an “entry point not
found†error when I use Internet Explorers menus.

    The problem:
The Dolphin Screen Reader / Magnifier creates an “entry point not foundâ€
error message with reference to the “Psapi.dll†when users execute commands
    from the Internet Explorer menus.

Internet Explorer 7 is supplied with a new version of the psapi.dll which
conflicts with the version supplied with your Dolphin product.

    The solution
To work around this issue, follow these steps:

    • Go to the installation location for your Dolphin Screen Reader / Magnifier
(by default the location will be C:\Program Files\Dolphin\'Product name').
    • Find PSAPI.DLL in the installation location and rename it to something
    else, such as PSAPIOLD.DLL.
    • Restart the computer.

The Dolphin software will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the \Windows\System32
    directory and function normally.

It is important that you do not rename the PSAPI.DLL file in your
    \\Windows\System32 directory.

    Applies to:
Internet Explorer 7, Supernova, HAL, Lunar, and LunarPlus versions 7.01 and
    earlier.

[Alternately, search in Windows Explorer (WinKey+E) for "PSAPI.DLL" (without

    underneath it.]

    * Find PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL

    * NB: Do NOT rename the PSAPI.DLL file in C:\Windows\System32 directory!

hi, I followed your instruction renamimg the PSAPI.DLL to something like
PSAPIOLD.DLL without renaming the files ending with "C:\Windows\System32
directory" and it worked. Now I don't get this error message when I restart
    my computer.Thanks.

    How does one disable it?

  16. Lori,

You could check in Add/Remove programs for something from either your ISP or
computer maker along the lines of 'support'.

Alternatly you can disable just the faulty dll.
Find all occurances of PSAPI.DLL. (the locations may provide a clue to the
program to delete from Add/Remove if wanted)
For all of them EXCEPT the one located in c:\windows\system32 rename to
    psapi.dll.old or something like that.

(If you don't find a psapi.dll in ...\system32 then you are not searching
propery or something else is wrong and ignore this advice!)

Go to Start; then click Run. Type MSCONFIG in capital letters and click OK.
Then Click on the Tab called Startup and uncheck MotiveSB and click OK.
That's it. I'm not sure if that works though, because I used PA Bear's
    message. It's worth a try.
