Error number: 0x8007000B

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by Bhikkhu Samahita, Jan 7, 2006.

  1. When attempting updating Windows XP prof. SP2 I get:

"The website has encountered a problem and
cannot display the page you are trying to view."
    Error number: 0x8007000B

    Tried many things without success.

Any who have a clue to a solution ?

    many thanx in advance:

The error 0x800B0003 occurs in your Windows Update.log due to mismatch in digital signature. This
issue can be fixed by enabling "use http 1.1 through proxy connections" in Internet Options.

To enable "use http 1.1 through proxy connections"

    1. After Opening Internet Explorer click Tools / Internet Options.
    2. Click the Advanced Tab.
    3. Remove the check from use HTTP 1.1
    4. Place a check in Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.
    5. Attempt to access the Windows Update site again.
    6. If you are still experiencing difficulties with the update site, try
having both HTTP 1.1 and HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections checked.â€

  7. Hi Bhikkhu,

Since you have SP2 installed, open IE and go to Tools>Manage Add-ons and
ensure that WUWebControl Class (if using Windows Update) or MUWebControl
class (if using Microsoft Update) is listed and enabled.

    Regards,

  8. MUWebControl is listed & enabled under show:
"Add-ons that have been used by IE" but not under:
    "Add-ons currently loaded in IE"

  9. Have tried all that twice without effect. Have also reinstalled IE.
IE still seem corrupt insofar it cannot e.g. "view source" so one
cannot see/check any html code with it...

    Wow,
This took awhile to figure out but finally I have it working. I had
disabled my firewall and tried all else here with no sucess. Then I thought
about my router. I have Netgear 8 port prosafe hardware router firewall. I
unplugged from it and plugged directly into my cable modem. Not to my
surprise windows update works again. Will have to check out netgear to see
what security setting is blocking my windows update.

  13. Thanks for posting this, Jeff. When you figure out what setting needs to
be either changed or reset to, please post it so that others with the
same hardware can learn what they must do in order get updates from the
    WU/MU Update sites.

We use a Fortinet firewall. It was blocking the update at the firewall. We
needed to create an exempt rule for the Windows Update mirror, which we found
in our Antivirus log by IP address. Put the IP address in the Web exempt list
and you're good to go. I'd love to know what aspect of the update service is
getting blocked, but I haven't found that yet. I will post when i find it.

This is not a link to a web page/site. It's a direct download link.

You should get a dialog box asking you "do you want to run or save this file"
You need to save the file to a location that you can easily find.
