    When using Windows Update I get following message:

    "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed
    on your computer. To continue:

    *Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
    *Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem"

    After choosing to register and registering I get the following message:

    "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
    trying to view."

    I have used Windows Update successfully for long and would like to continue
    doing so. Nothing special has happened to my computer as far as I know. What
    to do?

    Cheers

    Where did you see that code?

    FWIW

    An instance of the service is already running.
    </cmd_output>

    I saw the code as a header to the message.

    My problem has been solved by simply re-booting the computer. I think the
    problem was caused by "Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum 3" software that made
    changes to my registry when I choosed to a "OneClick Optimization" procedure.
