Event ID 7031: "The DNS Server service terminated unexpectedly."

Discussion in 'DNS Server' started by Paul Schwartz, Jun 28, 2005.

  1. I am (ab)using my Win2K DNS service to run a DNS Blacklist. I modify the
hostfile through a scripted process. This has been running without incident
    for over a year.

Today I receive this error about 3 minutes after an update is applied via
another scripted process on the server.

    the drwtsn32.log shows this:

    Application exception occurred:
    App: dns.exe (pid=2648)
    When: 6/28/2005 @ 14:33:50.609
    Exception number: 80000003 (hardcoded breakpoint)

A search of google shows nothing on the event ID that's relevant (nothing on
eventid.net that fits) nor on technet or the KB.

Anyone with some serious expertise that can help me with this?

    Other possibly useful info:

    - This DNS server is replicating this zone out to one other server. The
foreign server isn't crashing. Because Win2K DNS doesn't appear to like my
zonefile size I'm issuing a script on the foreign server to delete and
rebuild the zone at each update.
    - The DNS zonefile is 11.2 MB in size and contains 204,000 lines which would
    equal ~ 102,000 host objects.
