We currently have a server that is in its own little world with 2k. This
server has been named sales.xxx.com. We would like to put this server in
mail.xxx.com. What is the proper procedure for making this happen? It has
only ad users and computers on it.

  2. It sounds like this is a domain controller. Therefore you need to demote
(DCPROMO), and either join the mail domain or promote (DCPROMO) as a DC in
    the mail domain.

Eitherway, any user, computer, contact, group objects are going to be lost.
If you wish to preserve these objects you must migrate. If you want to
migrate before decommissioning this server, look at ADMT (v3) and the
deployment guide for info. on how to do this.

Thanks Paul, I do want to preserve the existing users on this server as they
do have file and print sharing that this server controls. I did look at doing
the dcpromo but shyed away when I was presented with the window that stated
that all users would be lost. I want to keep all current users on this
server. I will follow the link that you left and see where this takes me.
    Thanks again.
