Expanding Virtual Hard Disk

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by Norm Diederich, Aug 19, 2005.

  1. Virtual PC 2004 SP1 on XP Pro SP2

I am running out of space in my Drive 1.

It shows 3.9GB in my computer on the VM.

Client System in VM is Server 2003 STD Additon.

Virtual Disk Wizard shows File type: Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk

    Size 16384MB

    Version 5.3

Various operation such as trying to load SPI say that I do not have enough
    disk space.

I have 4 or 5 GB left on the native system.

What can I do to get more space in Drive 1.

I have access by network share to a 30GB partition that I can use to
rearrange things if necessary but in the end I need to get back on the host
    system.

    Thanks,
    Norm

  2. More important than the size of the virtual hard disk is the size of the
Window partition inside the VM machine. Once the virtual hard drive has
been partitioned, you cannot change this size without using a tool such a
PartitionMagic or re-imaging the partition to another drive with a tool like
Ghost. Also, many of these tools will work with Windows XP but not with a
server edition such as Windows Server 2003.
