    Greetings.

I'm trying tp upgrade XP SP2 pro 64b to Vista 64b using a Vista 64 DVD.
I'm running it via the legacy OS (not via boot), on an NTFS partition,
and still get the following error:

    Upgrade has been disabled.
You must be running windwos XP serivce pack 2 ...

    which I am...

    I'm lost, please help..:geek:

You must run it by booting from the Vista DVD. You cannot upgrade the x64
    version from the desktop.

Sorry, no upgrade path for Vista x64. You need to back up all of your
important files and boot from the Vista X64 DVD and do a clean install.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradepaths.mspx

"If you are currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP
Professional x64, you are eligible for an upgrade copy to a
corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista, but a clean install is
    required".

If you need further help post back.
    Good luck.

That is not true, since the installer claims 'to upgrade you must run
    this installer from windows'.

Are you saying that THERE IS NO WAY TO UPGRADE WINXP 64 SP2 TO VISTA
    64? OR VISTA WHATSOEVER?
    I must make a clean install ?
Does Microsoft not support this or this not possible?
    Is there a workaround?

    Argghh!

  5. Can only relate my experience. Inside the packaging my 32 bit business
version of Vista came with a coupon to send away for a 64 bit version
if you wanted that instead. I further know that the Home Premium
version is blocked from doing a install in place, what I wanted to do
which is the only reason I got the business version so I could do an
    install in place.

I posted the factual answer to your question yesterday. Maybe you missed it.
