While running Internet Explorer 7, whenever i right-click on the thing in the
taskbar, the menu containing Maximize, Size, Minimize, Close, etc pops up,
but whenever i select one of the options (any of them), all i hear is the
system "Ding" sound and nothing happens. I cannot close, maximize, minimize,
or ANYTHING by using this method! I can only use the buttons in the upper
    right-hand corner.
All other windows are working fine when i try using these options, but its
    just IE7!

Im running Windows Vista (Preinstalled) on a BRAND NEW HP Pavillion a6077c
    TV PC
IE7 was working fine when I started up the computer for the first time (3 or
4 days ago) but just started messing up
Also, I have tried doing a system restore and it goes through all the steps
properly, but when the computer restarts, it keeps saying that it was
    unsuccessful

I have run virus scanners and malware detectors and i am CLEAN
    even Defender says so

I am very stuck right now and am annoyed by this problem since using the
right-click method for closing windows is my preferred method

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

    Hi Mitchel,

Does this happen when running IE7 in noAddons mode? (Start>All
    Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (noAddons)

What tasks are running when you have loaded and minimized IE7 and it won't
    close from the task bar?

I suspect that it could be an IE7 addon (something that is connected to the
internet while IE is opened... it won't let IE close while its working or
something that is monitoring the position of the IE window and won't let it
close because it is in a minimized state)....The Google toolbar and the
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe processes are probable suspects, though there have
been no posts for this so far.

    Or possibly

Check the registry permissions for this key

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main (the value Window_Placement
holds the position co-ordinates of the last IE window)

It still does it in the no add-ons mode and i can be running IE7 ALONE in the
taskbar OR with ANY program and it does it
By the way, the problem doesnt just happen whe IE7 is minimized. It happens
when it is minimized OR maximized
What i meant though was that none of the pop-up menu options (Minimize,
Maximize, Size, Move, Restore, or Close) work. They are highlightable and
selectible, but none of the actions occur after clicking them

Actually, i think it partially fixed it
it still wont close using right-click, but for some weird reason if i
double-click the taskbar button (which makes IE7 minimize and then
immediately maximize) and THEN right-click>close, it works.
    weird...
    and still inconvenient

    I have the same problem.

If I have an IE7 window open and i right click, I cannot use any of the
options. If i try, I get the default ding noise and nothing happens. My
system comes up clean. I have tried no addons mode and reset my
settings and cleared all my cache ad history files. It still remains.

I have notice that I CAN right click>close if the window is minimized
to the taskbar. but only then.

I have narrowed this down to the tablet PC input service. If I stop the
service, problem goes away. Start the service, problem comes back. this
is on a freshly installed vista ultimate machine.

problem is, I cant stop this service, or i lose my tablet
functionality. might be a solution for others, though.
