Export XP's OE rules into Win7's WLMail pobbile?

Discussion in 'Windows Live Mail' started by Charles Galloway, Apr 6, 2013.

  1. Would it be possible to export the message rules for the XP's OE,
change "Outlook Express" to "Windows Live Mail" , then import the
changed files into the Win7 computer? would this correctly add the
    rules as necessary?

also I used identies in Outlook Express so not sure how I would take
that into account in modifing the message rules exported fules...?

    TIA.

Installing WLM09 on XP (with OE) migrates messages, accounts and rules.

    In the Registry
    export the key
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Rules]
    to a file.

Install and setup WLM on the other computer, take the file (exported above) to the other computer, and merge it into that registry.

Incorrectly accessing and changing the registry can create problems.
    Proceed at your own risk

Note: Once the registry file (from the XP WLM installation) is imported into a WLM on Win7 on some versions of WLM it may be
necessary to edit each rule by opening the rule and reselecting a command or action (without changing) then resaving.
