    roga Guest

For some reason about 10 % of clients have stopped reporting to the wsus
    server

What I have done so far:

    1) Unistalled and reinstalled the WSUS server

    2) On the client:

    1) Remove and reinstall microsft update

    2) run:
    net stop wuauserv

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll
    regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
    regsvr32 qmgr.dll
    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

    3) command prompt and run wbemtest and try to connect with default settings.
If you run WBEMTEST on the machine and unable to connect to the root means
an issue with WMI on the workstation.

Stop the "Windows Management Instrumentation" Service
    Go to "system32\wbem" folder

    Delete the "repository" folder

Start the "Windows Management Instrumentation" Service

    4) reg delete
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /v
    AccountDomainSid /f
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
    /v PingID /f
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
    /v SusClientId /f
    net stop wuauserv
    net start wuauserv
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow

After all of the above I am still getting errors see below latest client
    log:

One of my first actions on clients that have issues is:

    net stop wuauserv
    del /s /f /q %systemroot%\softwaredistribution\*.*
    net start wuauserv

Did you try that before all your other steps?

I notice the client version is greater, you might want to try
reinstalling the client by getting the redistributable from
    <http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264>

Then install on the client like this:

    WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

  5. To add to the probable causes list....
Your client has a version of the WUA that's not distributed by WSUS, and
that I have never seen before in use; and it's trying to selfupdate ot the
WSUS SP1 agent. Until the selfupdate occurs, nothing else will work.

The fundamental issue to troubleshoot is a selfupdate failure.
And the 0x8024400a error has been reported, documented, and repaired dozens
of times with a known hotfix associated with a known conflict between
htttp.sys and IIS6 on Win2003 systems. The hotfix requires SP1 for
    installation.

  6. CORRECTION:

You're client has a /newer/ version of the WUA that's not distributed by
WSUS, and that I've never seen before in use. (I misread the sequence of the
    build numbers.)

So, no selfupdate is required, nor occuring, but I don't have any
information about the 2694 build, or its source, and that may be causing
issues talking to your WSUS SP1 server.

All of this is inaddition to the previously noted, and discussed many times,
known hotfix for the 0x8024400A error.

  9. Thanks Gus!

Wasn't aware they'd 'updated' the WUA for SMS. (Guess I should have
    checked....)

Now I /really/ gotta see about getting a test installation of SMS running.
