Wow, I really wish I hadn't bothered with this. It seems I am in the minority
here, however, after downloading and installing IE7, I rebooted my computer,
and I immediately got a BSOD fatal system error message, and my computer
won't boot up at all. I can't run it in any of the Safe Modes, nothing. This
appears to have totally devastated my system. Anyone have any idea how I can
    fix this?

You can try this if you're able to get to the desktop.
    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and
    Recovery dialog box.
    4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary
    number of times.
    5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

If not, try a restart and at the Logo, tap F10 which should take you to a
    repair/recovery screen of Windows XP.

  3. Details of the BSOD would be helpful, without which we are doing no more
    than guess.

  4. A little extreme don't you think? Instead, let's find out what VXD is
implicated and then take it from there. All that may be required is a video
    or modem driver update.

Was there a solution to this? I'm having the exact same problem. The problem
for me is that the BSOD appears for a nanosecond, so I can't read any details.

If anyone can help with this, I'd be seriously happy!
