Why is deleting a file in Vista so slow? Are there any tweaks or settings that fix this problem?

When you say slow, how slow do you mean? It should be almost instant to delete a single file (assuming it isn't GB in size).

I have had it take 10-20 minutes to delete half-a-dozen files. I also deleted some large backup files and that took over an hour. My PC is new with Intel i7-940 and 12 meg of RAM

XP does this almost instantly. Why is Vista so slow?
