Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by MS Office Outlook Error, Jul 20, 2009.

  1. Hi,

When i try to access the share \\Test1 below error displays.

"The user name could not be found"

The share is form EMC NAS & permission has been given to access the share,
but still i get the error "The user name could not be found".

    Thanks & Regards,
    Maghesh

  2. \\Test1 is not a share; it is a machine name. \\Test1\Sharename would be a
    share.

  4. You can execute the command \\Test1 from the "Start/Run" box but you cannot
execute it from a Command Prompt.

  6. Try from command prompt:
    net use n: \\Test1\NAS /user:TARGET\User
where 'TARGET' = domain or target server where user is defined

  7. This is getting a little confusing. First you wrote
"When i try to access the share \\Test1"
and then you agreed that \\Test1 is not a share but a machine name.

    Later on you wrote
"When i run from command prompt"
    and then you wrote
"I was running the \\Test1 from "Start/Run" boxes"
    which again is contradictory.

On top of these obvious problems I have to say that I know nothing about NAS
shares. I recommend you start another thread and observe the following
    points:
    - Put the word "NAS Shares" into the Subject line in order to attract the
    NAS experts.
    - Word your post carefully in order to avoid confusion and contradictions.
    - Post the command or method you use when trying to map a share.
    - Run some tests with ordinary shares to ensure that your syntax is correct.
