We recent upgraded a Novell file server to Window 2003 Standard Server.
Copied all the data over no problems.

We then setup some directories with users rights.

i.e. d:\users\bill with access rights to Administrator & Bill is see this
    directory.

No problems, however one of the users is unable to access a few files and
others files in the same sub dir no problems.

So I thought the best way to fix this was to replace all the access rights.
During the Applying of the Security info we get.

    Window Name "Error Applying Security"
Window Text "An error occurred applying security info to: D:\users\bill\my
    documents\xxxx.scn Access id denied"

    Continue or Cancel

If I try to access/delete this files on the file server via Explorer no go.
I have also restarted the file server same issue

    Anyone?

  2. Restarting a server because of permission issues will never
work. You need to seize ownership of this folder.

  3. hi,
you have to take ownership of files with security problem.
you can use subinacl.exe for take ownership from command line.
