"find Album info" give me either entire album info or files by fil

Discussion in 'Windows Media Player' started by vincentpierre, Dec 15, 2004.

  1. I added 2 album of mp3 files in the WMP10 library. When I want to modify and
add information (Art...) of the album by the metaservices.windowmedia.com, I
clic rigth on the album, and clic on finding "album informations". For some
album, I get information of the entire Album (great for updates idTags
quickly) in one step, and for other, I get information files by files of the
album (send long time). I don't know why ?

  2. I'm sorry for my poor english speaking, I'm french. A small video clip is
better for understanding my probleme I think :

When I click on "find album information" on the metallica album, I can tag
all the songs in one step, and search an other album if a mistake occur.

But on the album of alanis maurissette, for exemple, when I click on "find
album information" I can't search and modify the album in one step, but only
song of the album one by one.

  3. I tried this :

I burn mp3 tracks of the album of Alanis Maurissette on Audio CD (In image
recorder .nrg) and then, mount this virtual audio CD in a virtual CD player,
and extract them with the wmp 10 in wma files.

Now, the album of alanis maurrissette is correctly recognize by the library
as an album, and not as 11 independs tracks (of an album).

I tried also the exctraction as mp3, and the result is the same.
I also tried to replace the mp3 files extracted by the wmp10 by the original
mp3 files (those I bruned) and correctly rename. Delete all entries in the
wmp10 library, and add this last directory. And now, when I click on "find
album information", I can't tag the album in one step, tracks one by one.

So, I think, there is something in the MP3 or Wma files (when wmp10 extract
audio CD) that enable wmp 10 library regognize as album files.

Best regards, and thank you for your reply.

  4. Yes, I'm ok with you.

But how it's possible to get the album info wizard for non wmp ripped album
tracks, in order to tag all album tracks in one go ?

  5. Thank you Mike.

    Best Regards, Pierre.

[disclaimer:] I don't know if this is the best place to say this, but if not
    here, where?

I truly wish that MP10+ had a feature for finding EITHER a single track
info, or an entire album. like, in the context menu, it should have "Find
Album Info" and "Find Track Info".

The data is there, because when you search for a single track, you can popup
the full album details. Why can't you just click a button saying 'apply album
details to all' and it takes a good guess, or combines the album metadata
with the track #, or something?

WMP10's ability to automatically find and organise track info is the ONLY
reason I use it over iTunes, MediaMonkey, etc.
Surely it's in someone's best interest to make it more user friendly /

Okay, i'm done ranting. Thanks guys for a great piece of software anyway.
But this would surely be a huge improvement.

(p.s. perhaps someone could add this feature as a powertoy-style plugin?)

  8. Ok Mike, but as jed said, You can't choice "taggin" full album in one step.
Only if this album was ripped with wmp. I think like Jed that's a pity. Maybe
a powertoys or plugin for advanced tag with the metaservices.windowsmedia.com

I would like to follow up on this thread. I am confused about the single
track information vs. full album. If I rip a compiled cd of mp3s to WMP10, I
would like to be able to have metaservices tag each individual song with its
information. However, if you right click on a song, it only says you can get
album information and does not identify the particular song you want IDed? Am
    I wrong?

I have been reading what you've been posting and I think I know what's going
    on, maybe.
With Media player, most version, for now anyway, you can only search info
for your albums, track by track, ONLY!
The only reason that sometimes when you choose "find album info" and it
shows you the whole album at once and then you just click the "Finish" button
and it does all the album at once, is because that certain album was ripped
from an original album with your media player and the reason for that, when
media player rips an original album, it saves it as a (copyright) protected
album (all the files in that certain album) and then if you happen to do a
"find album info"... it will always show it as a complete album.

I think what the issue is, is what I'm experiencing. Whereby I wish to click
on 'Find Album Info' and have it come up ONCE with that window where you can
select from it's found matches, and it'll update ALL of the tracks in one hit.

As it is (I'm using WMP 11), it goes one track at a time... slow, painful,

It's not that hard for it to do :(

I have the same problem running WMP11, and just filed a bug report for it on
Windows Vista Beta 2. Really, WMP should just allow you to choose whether to
update metadata 1 CD at a time or 1 track at a time... the functionality is
already there, and it's actually SIMPLER just to let the user decide than to
automagically determine which dialog to show.

Since this was annoying me so much, I tried to figure out how WMP's "Find
Album Info" wizard determines whether to display the screen to update the
metadata 1 track at a time, or an entire CD at a time.

I ripped one track to MP3 using CDex and named it SayItAintSo.mp3 and
cleared the ID3 metadata. WMP11's "Find Album Info" wizard only lets me
update the metadata an entire CD at a time. Lame!

I then ran the same file through WavePad and saved it as a MP3 with exactly
the same ID3 metadata and the name SayItAintSo2.mp3. Now WMP11's "Find Album
Info" wizard lets me update the metadata 1 track at a time.

Sometimes when I right click and do the Find Album Info on a CD, it doesn't
do anything, or update anything, as if its confused which album to update,
like if there are more than one version of that CD...
