!!! FIXED: Windows Update Error 800A138F ( and 800C0008 in the log file)

  1. Just found a solution that worked for me posted in the
    microsoft.public.win2000.windows_update forum.

    Thanks to Fabio.

See the thread titled: Windows XP and 0x800A138F (8/24/2003)

    Open IE
Click Tools from the menu across the top (file, edit, view, favorites,
    tools, help)
Click on Internet Options (should be at or near the bottom. If you see
    double errors, click those)
Click the Language button near the bottom of the window. Should be above the
    Ok and the Cancel button.
If the Language box is empty, that could be the problem! You need to tell IE
what to tell the windows update server what language you want the updates
    in!
    Click the add buttton.
I added English (United States) [en-us] as well as English [en].
    Click OK.
Click OK again to close the "Internet Options" window.
    Close ALL instances of IE.
    Then try windows update again.

It worked for me, and I tried several, if not most of the suggestions I
    found here and online.

    Good luck!

Ok... there are several things that might have caused
this error, but with me in particular the Language fixed
did it... now the only question I have is why or what
messed it up... (couldn't have been user error?!!)
