Forwarding Hotmail to SBS or retrieving Hotmail from SBS

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Reginald Hook, Feb 8, 2006.

  1. Does anyone know if we can upgade our hotmail account such that we
could then use the SBS POP Connector to retreive our hotmail whilst
everyone is changing over to our new SBS hosted email accounts?

Or is there a way to upgrade the Hotmail service such that we can
forward our hotmail accounts to our new SBS hosted email accounts.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

No - Hotmail doesn't allow POP.
That's something you'd have to check with Hotmail support about.
I suggest that everyone send out a mass mail to all their contacts notifying
them that as of Date X, all company mail will be handled internally, and
provide the new email address. Then periodically check the hotmail accounts
via the web to catch stragglers.

  3. This may not be what you are looking for but ... As LanWench says,
HotMail does not support POP. But it can be upgraded to HotMail Plus,
at which point Outlook 2003 can retrieve the mail for a particular
    address.

I have a non-profit client who used to use a HotMail for their primary
address. After SBS2003 was installed, they started hosting their own
mail with individual addresses for each person. The Administrative
Assistant - who had been checking the web HotMail - now gets those
    messages via Outlook.

Yep, Outlook can do this via HTTP - but I don't generally like mixing
account types on the client - better to centralize everything on the server.
This might be good for a stopgap, though.

Exactly how it is being used for my client, to give them several months
to ensure all the places the HotMail address was being used have been
switched over to the new address.
