FSMO roles duplicated in both first domain controller and backup domain controller... is it possible

  1. In my experiences, I don't think it's possible.

You need to manually transfer those roles.

    Hi all,

In my ActiveDirectory domain I set up two domain controllers. Both servers
are Windows 2000 SP4. The idea is the second domain controller should
replace the first one as soon and as automatically as possible in case of
    hardware failure.
The KB article 255504 (Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to
a domain controller) describes how to act in case the first domain
controller fails. This paper describes a manual procedure to transfer the
roles. I ask Is it any way I can configure the second domain controller to
automatically substitute the first one in case of failure? I mean, is it
possible to get the FSMO roles duplicated in both servers? My goal is the
second should take the full responsibility for the domain without user
    intervention. Is it possible?

    Thanks in advance
    Sammy

No. How would the second DC know if the first "failed" or was just rebooted?

    I mean, is it
The "S" in FSMO means "Single" meaning there can only be one per
    domain/forest.

    My goal is the
    Not that I'm aware of.
