Good signal strength but no station display?

I just set up WMC on Vista Ultimate, and am loving it.

However I have a question on one of the over-the-air digital stations in my
area. When checking signal strength in WMC, this particular station will show
4 green bars. However, when I attempt to actually watch the channel, WMC says
there is no TV signal. What's going on? The channel is good, and should be
broadcasting. WMC setup says it sees a decent signal, but when I watch it WMC
fails to pull it in. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Have you tried using the software that came with your TV tuner card to
verify you can watch digital stations outside of WMC? This is probably the
best way to determine if you have a hardware/software problem that is
independent of WMC. I would suggest you try that first to verify if things
are working properly without WMC in the picture.

    Bill,

Thanks for the tip. I installed AVer MediaCenter, and did a scan of the
available channels. It picked up the one I was attemping to view in WMC, and
two additional ones. The three channels are broadcast out by the local PBS
affiliate. The channels are 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3. I'm new to the whole digital
tuning aspect of things, so I'm not quite sure how to 'dial' those stations
in WMC to see if I can view them manually. Any idea how to bring them into
    WMC?

    Thanks!

It could be a reception problem, while showing 4 bars suggest good signal
strength the signal maybe fluctuating. It helps to know where the stations
are located if they are VHF or UHF and the recommended antenna type to
assure you receive the transmissions. This site may help you determine if
    it's an antenna problem.

Thanks for the reply jolt. I actually was able to view all three channels
(26.1, 26.2, 26.3) in AVer MediaCenter just fine. Would this suggest that the
signal strength is ok, but for some reason WMC won't show them?

Media Center seems to be a little more demanding on the signal strength
requirements then some software. IMO software written primarily for
recording should require a level of signal strength sufficent to assure that
the recorded programming will play without errors. To troubleshoot if indeed
it is a problem with signal strength adjusting the antenna for the channel
in question may tell you if your on the right path to solving the problem.

Well, as I noted in my original post, when I do the signal test strength
inside of WMC, it shows four green bars. I can recieve and view other
channels inside of WMC that are the same or a little weaker, but not these.
    That's why I'm confused.

This is almost always indicative of a PSIP problem broadcast by the station
itself. Unfortunately there's not much you can do other than send an email to
the station's engineering department and explain whats happening. Sometimes
they step up to the plate and admit there's a problem.

This seems to be a common complaint of MCE users.

The green bars are dependent upon only the signal strength and bit error
rate of the data stream. When actually watching a program, the PSIP must be
correct too, which it appears it isnt.

Of course all MCE users would be affected by this problem if its broadcast
by the station. What station is it? Maybe someone else can chime in and say
    "I have that problem too!"

dickm, thanks for the response. The station call letters are KYNE-DT
<http://www.netnebraska.org/television/> in Omaha, NE. The three channels I'm
able to receive with the AVer MediaCenter, but not WMC, are 26.1, 26.2, and
    26.3.

I've already initiated contact with the station, and they said mine was the
first WVMC question they've received. :) I'll forward on your answer to see
if that makes sense to them.

    Thanks,

    Jess

Are all 3 of the channels broadcasting HD resolution programs on their
digital channels which is normally not possible? MC will only recognize the
    HD resolution digital channels.
You can check at antennaweb.org to see what they are broadcasting.

Woops, I meant that you should check at Titantv.com not antennaweb.org.
