    Hello,

We have domain company.org and we have 2 child domains, test.company.org and
test2.company.org, everything is still in MIXED MODE, but we want to make at
least test.comany.org and test2.company.org to NATIVE MODE, is that possible
    without affecting company.org domain?
Reason we need to do so is, we have groups under test.company.org to be
    members of test2.company.org and company.org.

    Thanks

    Eimis

  2. The functional mode for each domain can be set up independently.

I am little bit confused on NATIVE mode, we have servers that are NT and
members of Active Directory domain, if I go NATIVE will those server be able
    to authenticate?
Also we have Trust relationship enabled with NT4 domain, will that break if
    I go NATIVE?

    Thank you,

    Eimis

Eimis, Native mode can be described with one single sentence. No More NT4.0
BDCs. It dose not effect any workstations, or member servers at all.

So will my trust relationship break with NT4 domain if I go native?
I understand that no winnt4 bdc for domain, but we just have trust
    relationship with separate winnt domain.

    Thanks

    Hi Eimis

trusts are not affected by the functional level of your AD domain. Raising the functional level to "native" just means (as Chriss described) that you do not have any NT 4.0 BDCs IN THAT DOMAIN. Trusts to NT 4.0 based domains are still possible and will not break if you raise the level of your AD domain
Just have in mind that you just raise the domain functional level for your particular domain, not the forest level
