Help, none of my wmv or wma files are playing!

Discussion in 'Windows Media Player' started by EvelynWoodson, Feb 19, 2006.

  1. I recently had to repair my operating system (win xp professional) and found
that my media player had rolled back to 9. I tried to reinstall media player
10 but the installation was unsuccessful, for unknown reasons.
Furthermore, version nine refuses to play any of my music tracks. They are
all still on my computer and I can get them into the library, but when I
attempt to play I get an unspecified error and cannot play.
Video playback is fine, and tracks will play from a cd, but my computer
based music will not play at all.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I would be extremely grateful for any
    help you can offer.

    Thanks.

What does the installer say when it fails?
What lines in c:\windows\wmsetup.log say "ERROR: "?

  3. The installer says "it was not possible to complete setup. Windows media
    player 10 was not installed"

I can't find any Errors in the log either.

    Thanks for your help.

So there's no lines "ERROR: " in c:\windows\wmsetup.log? How about in
wmsetup10.log? If that's the case, then it'll be pretty close to impossible
to help you. The logging of the installer isn't insanely robust, but it
*should* log everything of high interest. =\
