HELP VIDEO FREEZES COMPUTER

  1. i just reformatted with windows XP and I could play and video clips I wanted
    (internet, downloaded content) but now that I added windows XP service pack 2
    when i try to play video clips, my CPU usage goes to 100% and the computer
    freezes right up and I have to hard restart it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE
    HELP ME WITH THIS.

  2. Sounds like maybe your PC is missing some necessary codecs (which decode the
    video file to produce a graphic). You might search for and install FFDSHOW,
    which is one of the better codec packages. You might also go to Microsoft's
    web site and search for Media Encoders, which might also have some useful
    codecs.

    If this still fails, we need more details of a failing video file. You might
    be able to hover the mouse on the file in Explorer and get more info in a
    popup window, or you may need to right-click and select Properties, then
    look on other tabs. Once we know what format that file is, we can help you
    better...
