How do I tell difference between a 32 bit and a 64 bit machine.

    I want to update, but it ask me if I have a 32 bit or a
    64 bit machine. I don't know what I have or how to tell
    what I have. What if I have already downloaded some
    updates or patches that apply to the different type
    machine? These updates are really hard for me to
    understand. Not enough information for me.
